Unable to Load Plugin Library (9050)


This error indicates that the Installation Wizard was unable to load a plug-in that is required to obtain the administrator identification and credentials for CA Parental Controls.


Disable items that load at system start-up to remove any conflicts

  1. Go to Start, Run (Start on Windows Vista).
  2. In the Run dialog, type the following command and press Enter:


    The System Configuration Utility window appears.

  3. Select the Startups tab, and click Disable All.
  4. Click OK.

    Click OK to restart your computer.

Next, re-install CA Parental Controls using the command line.

Install CA Parental Controls from the command line

Note: To follow this procedure you will need a decompression utility, such as WinZip, installed on your computer.

  1. Using Windows Explorer, go to your local C:\ drive and create a new folder called Extract.
  2. Copy all of the product installation files to the Extract folder using one of the following steps:
    • If you purchased the product from a retail store, copy all files from the CD to C:\Extract.
    • If you purchased the product online, use the download link from your welcome email to download the compressed product file to C:\Extract.
      1. Right-click the downloaded file and use a compression tool to extract the contents in the local folder named Extract. If you are using Winzip, right-click the downloaded file and choose WinZip, Extract to here.

        A second file is extracted in the Extract folder.

      2. Repeat the same file extraction procedure to extract the second file.
  3. Go to Start, Run (Start on Windows Vista).

    The Run dialog appears.

  4. In the Run dialog, type the following command and press Enter.


    A DOS window appears.

  5. At the DOS prompt, type the following command and press Enter :

    cd C:\Extract

    You are now inside the Extract folder on your C;\ drive.

  6. Type the following command and press Enter:

    setup.exe /ShowProductInstall

  7. Follow the on-screen instructions and choose only the CA Parental Controls component for installation.
  8. When prompted, enter your Parental Administrator user name and password.

    Note: If you have forgotten the security code, enter the Administrator Email Address and any security code which is at least 6 characters long, and then click OK. The Invalid Credentials dialog appears.

    1. Click the Send me an email with my Administrator Security Code link.
    2. An email containing the password is sent to the Administrator's email account.

    You can now enter the password and the installation will complete successfully.
